The year is fast coming to an end. Marketers and business owners have begun planning the end of the year campaigns which is a good thing. Successful campaigns require a lot of planning and a solid fail-safe strategy.
Now, just before we jump into the festive season, it is important to not forget that there are certain digital marketing trends that rocked 2017. There are trends that shaped the digital marketing space. Now, inasmuch as we want to have that viral campaign to end the year, let’s take a step back and take advantage of a few trends which will certainly rule 2018.
If you have been paying attention, you would noticed the word ‘influencers’ flying around social media for the most part of this year. No, it’s not a drill and you definitely heard right. Influencer Marketing has been one of the major trends of 2017. We saw the rise of micro and macro influencers collaborating with brands to literally influence the buyer’s journey. All you had to do was build an highly engaged audience and bam!, you became an influencer. Inasmuch as it is a trend, it doesn’t undermine its effectiveness. Statistics have shown that 92% of consumers trust recommendations from people over brands. That’s a huge number if you ask me. Statistics also show that 54% of followers engage with messages shared by influencers. I can go on and on but the bottom line is, one of the fastest way to reach your target audience in 2017 is through influencer marketing.
Before now, live streaming used to be a bit of a big deal. You needed to have a bit of equipment properly set up before you can live stream anything. These days, all you need is your smartphone and maybe a microphone to go live. Even more amazing is that all the major social media platforms have made live streaming as easy as flipping a switch. For this reason, live videos dominated the digital marketing space in 2017. In fact, it has been predicted that by 2020, 82% of all consumer internet traffic will be video. I don’t know about you but that’s some mind-boggling statistics and if I were you, I will update my social media strategy.
2017 saw both Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp hit 1Billion monthly active users(MAU). That had to count for something. I mean 1 billion people are a lot of people to reach out to but that shouldn’t prevent business owners from including them in their marketing strategy. While we await Whatsapp for Business, Messenger bots are a great way to raise awareness, acquire customers, enable transactions and provide support. Go on and start!
Before running that grandiose campaign for the festive season, you have a couple of months to take advantage of these trends that would spill over to 2018. So, get ready!
